Active listening

Listening is not just a skill – it is a way of being present. Studies show that leaders who are perceived as better listeners have more influence. Conversely, poor listening is one of the main causes of mistakes, misunderstandings and demotivation.

Participants will receive input on some principles of active listening and on what can get in the way of it. And, of course, there will be plenty of practice.

The Art of Asking Questions

Leaders (and all other employees in the organisation) who have mastered the art of questioning stimulate critical thinking, innovation, commitment and trust. Too often, there is still the idea that as a leader, you must have all the answers. Or the pitfall is to go into persuasion mode. Whereas leaning more towards curiosity and starting with questions is usually more effective.

Participants will receive input on the competence of asking meaningful questions and an overview with many sample questions to expand their repertoire. And, of course, there will be plenty of practice.

Integrating a strengths-based approach into communication and leadership

Critical feedback is, of course, necessary from time to time for learning and development, but it is just as important that people are aware of and receive recognition for their strengths. This contributes more to motivation and self-confidence. Yet, this aspect often receives insufficient attention. There is much to be gained here.

Participants will receive input on what a strengths-based approach entails, the crucial elements involved, any obstacles that may arise, and how to implement it. There will be opportunities to exchange experiences and practise.

What is a Growth Mindset and what can you do as an organisation and as a leader to foster it?

Many organisations use the term growth mindset, but it is not always clear what exactly it means. A growth mindset can be considered at the individual level, but also at the level of the organisation. An organisational culture that fosters a growth mindset among employees contributes to innovation, collaboration, agility and resilience in the face of change.

Participants will receive input on what a growth mindset is and what it is not; on the characteristics of an organisational culture that fosters it; what you can do as a leader or colleague to contribute to it; and how you can further develop your own growth mindset. There will also be opportunities to exchange ideas and learn from each other based on case studies and best practices.

What is psychological safety and how can you promote it as an organisation and as a leader?

In recent years, psychological safety has become a widely used concept in organisations and has been shown to contribute to successful teams, well-being, innovation, employee retention and other positive outcomes. However, there are also many misconceptions about what psychological safety actually is.

Participants will receive input on what psychological safety is and what it is not; how to assess and promote this quality in their own team; and what this requires of them. There will also be opportunities to exchange ideas and learn from each other based on their own team situation, challenges and best practices.
